Ok I have a tank with 2 electric yellow labs, 1 pink convict, and 1 purple lab. These fish have been in this tank for about a month but I also had two Jack Dempsys in there also but just today I took them out and all day the purple lab has been following the pink convict around like crazy I mean he is sticking to the convict like glue on his butt crack lol I don't know what is up. So does the purple lab just like the convict and want to get some action or are they just buddies? Is it even possible for the two to breed? Also the pink convict always chases the 2 yellow labs but never chases the purple lab and the purple lab doesn't chase anybody man I have a weird tank.

I do not know the scientific name for the lab all the lady at the LFS said was it was a rare lab and she couldn't remeber the name. It is purple with a yellow tail fin and the dorsal fin is yellow. It looks just like the electric yellow but the colors are different.

Pseudotropheus acei are sometimes called purple cichlids, they are not labidochromis, they are also like you described, the LFS lady is probably lying to make a sale or doesnt know, they are not that uncommon but they are nice fish

i doubt its a convict, he said he has a yellow lab and a convict and he says the shape is just like the lab, convicts have much different shape, the convict really shouldnt be in that tank, they dont fit with africans different requirements, convicts need a diet high in protein while mbunas need a diet low in protein, a diet of mainly spirulina flakes with once a week brine shrimp treats is best for mbunas

LoL I think the one pink convict hogs all the food. And I just put some caves in the tank after I took the pics I was in the process of rearanging. I feed the fish Cichlid Gold pellets everyday along with some dried blood worms, daphnia, brine shrimp, or live black worms I mix it up a little give them a little different each day.
