Thanks for the quick reply, chichlid-man.

I just realized that i made some poor decisions when i bought my fish. Heres what i have...

1 frontosa
1 johanni
1 peacock
1 giraffe hap
1 lyretail cichlid
1 snail
2 enyo syp (i forgot, some kind of catfish)

all in a 20g tall.

(awaits stoning)

Ohhhhh yeah big problem. :D

But that problem can be fixed. AND you noticed it.

Just trade some in at your LFS, ask for store credit or something.

That Front will be amost the length of that tank. :eek: And haps grow pretty big also. Yeah, hmmmm. All of those fish will outgrow a 20gal. EXCEPT the lyretail cichlid aka Neolamprologus brichardii. I'd keep the brichardii, maybe even get another 1. And take the rest back.

you know whats screwed up? I bought the frontasia and he peacock at the same time, told the lfs owner what kind of tank i had and he said nothing. the next day i went back to the store and told a different guy that works there how disappointed i am to find out how agressive the johanni is and how big the front gets, and inquired about bringing them back and he just kind of said it would be fine and id have a long time before id have to worry and didnt i like them? so i dont know if they will take them (any of them) back.

there is a chain pet store in my area called petco, but there fish always look sickly, so it would stink to trade in my nice healthy fish for sickly ick-ey looking 'mixed baby africans'.

how long do you think i have before all hell breaks loose in my tank?

there all really small right now... the lyretail is almost 2inches, and its the biggest... the johanni is the smallest, at a little over an inch.

im just upset because the lfs i bought these at has the nicest fish... nice and healthy, in nice big tanks with good equipment, and i always see them doing water changes... the other local places jam fish in 10g tanks and they look so sad...

so about how long do i have to find these pretty fishies good homes??

and my boyfriend (being a typical man) wants to know which fish would 'preveil' in the end... (the johanni is 'his' fish, and hes hoping he's the winner)

=)

There is a good chance the johanni would prevail. I've seen a single johanni rule some tanks. Though, the brichard could probably hold his/her own. But who knows? I agree with CM to trade everything in except the brichardi. Get a mate for your current brichardit and you'd be set.

I got $10 on the Frontosa when is grows :p j/k (It would mearly squash the others and kill them because of its size)

The Front is prob. gonna be your slowest grower all the others grow at "normal" rates.

I give it MAX a month before you start having some problems. But i'd shoot on before then.

I'd just go for the brichardiis

A lot of LFS's do a lot of "Horrible" stuff. And things that make you REALLY angry. Typical LFS.

yeah... its so sad.... i did so much research for MONTHS.. my tank was cycled and all ready and i just couldnt figure out what fish to go with... if i should buy them local or order them on the internet, ect... so i just listened to the lfs and bought, bought, bought... the front is SO pretty... (AND the most expensive, coming in at $18) i almost died when i brought it home and read it can get up to 18 inches!!! the johanni was kind of bothering the peacock and front till i introduced brichardii... no one messes with him.....

Anyone want to buy some cute little cichlids?

I dunno if I would get a mate for the brichardi because if they breed then what are you going to do with the babies??

And I strongly agree with C-man, that you should take most of them back;)
