Hard to argue with C-Man (thank you) - now all I gotta work out is - is this good or is this bad - this guy's territorial big time. He's only 6 inches at the moment, but he sure does stake his claim....

Ah - got him - full grown at 6 inches (phew) - and SA too which fits him in with most of my other Cichlids. He lip-locks with the B.Parrots, but no harm's done as neither has the mouth parts to worry about.

Excellent - thanks guys.....

Yeah - I found quite a few pics that differ - but that's been the case for almost every fish in the book. The pic that C-Man posted is so close it's got me convinced though. Most of the links have this fish as SA - one says it's Malawi - lol - but the finer details don't matter - generalisations on size, habitat, behaviour are sufficient.

I know some on here are very fussy about their fishes blood lines, but when you're down the LFS looking at a fish that's under an inch long - how the hell can you tell what exactly what you're getting in to ? Half the time the lables are wrong/out of date for the stock etc - without DNA sampling at the point of sale it's all a game of chance with some types of fish - and this seems to be one of those types.

Anyway - I like the fish - and that's good enough for me.

That's OK then.

When I was first getting into Tanganyikans I was a little too lax about the origins of some fish, particularly the synos and it doesn't rest well with me at all that they weren't spot on.

Now I've got the species right but have bristlenoses in there to tackle the algae - so it's all about where we choose to draw the line.

With your fish I think the colouration differences are probably less important than other features....and behaviour is the key thing!

Don't get me started on labelling at fish stores.....!
