Cichlid - it's about time i asked!

how do you pronounce cichlid?!

I have always pronounced it as chich-lid, but that's wrong isnt it?

Is it kitch-lid? Cich-lid?

I'm sure you experts will know

Ive had this dilema for the longest time also.

Ive always just said it like chich-lid exactly like you karma. But i beleive the correct saying sounds like sick-lid, uhm i think.

sik-lid..I agree a guy at walmart defineately doesnt know how to say it. He calls them chik lids. I sked him if they ever get any NEW cichlids in, like gt's, or anything like that, and he said yeah, we get blue and yellow ones in sometimes. He thought I meant africans. He doesnt even know that oscars and parrotfish and many others are cichlids, too. He just thinks the only cichlids are africans.

Notice the abscence of the "fish expert" ? That is because for whatever reason Wal-Mart got into the fish business and for the sake of convenience used one of the above listed categories to staff that department. Knowing the difference between African cichlids and south/central americans won't help them earn money to buy that new exhaust for their '83 Honda Civic.
