My yellow lab cichlid is having some issues. He is hanging out next to the heater. His face area appears droopy and seems to be lacking some scales, sort of a fleshy look. He is not really swimming just hanging. His tank mates seem fine. Water parameters are fine. The only other oddity is my red tale shark has a few pale marks on one side. But they look like they could be bites. So that might just be coincidental. Any thoughts?

PS I do not have a quarantine tank readily available, but we do have a 10g with just a platy in it so I could work something out if need be. Thanks guys.

Is it possible you have a female with a mouth full of eggs, they are mouth brooders, and they don't need a male to drop eggs. I made that mistake myself and treated the tank

So "she" might be carrying unfertilized eggs in her mouth? Strange. I suppose that might explain why it is staying next to the heater. If that is the case, how long will she keep them in her mouth before giving up.

The female I had would hold them about three weeks, some time after the second week she would drop them to eat and then pick them up again, that would last a few days and then she would give up.

PS: don't be surprised if she doesn't eat for a few days.
