Can anyone phonetically spell "Cichlid"? I keep wanting to say "Chicklid" LOL

I've always wondered that! Somehow I got it in my head that it sounded like "chiclet" (those little ant-sized pieces of gum) with a "d".

Yay, I don't feel so pathetic anymore Lol. I guess there's just something about the way it's spelled that makes you want to say "Chick" instead of "Sick"

my first introducetion to cichlids was phonetically. i heard it verbally from a friend of mine years ago who kept fish and kept some convict "sicklids." when i saw the spelling it took a minute to connect the two.

Now how do you pronounce "Characins" and "Cyprinids?" With cyprinids, I'll go out on a lymb and say "sip-pri-nids," but for characins, who knows...

i pronounce cyprinids the same way you do lord. as for characin, ive always pronounced in it "Cha-ra-chin", dont know why though
