Anyone know of any Cichlid documentary shows on TV or buyable DVD's out there?

I am definitely on the hunt to watch nature in action and probably learn from that. Always a good way to keep your fish happy :p

Well as HSFT said there is the Discovery Channels "Planet Earth" series, I went to their web page and saw that they sell the whole series for $59.95 I didn't see where you could buy just individual episodes, but it's worth looking into.

Are you kidding!

"Jewel of the Rift" is the name, and it comes on National Geo every so often if you can catch it. It's a Doc on Lake Tanganyika and it's quite nice showing a wide range of cichlids, and even some otters and puffers.

I'm pretty sure that it's out of production on VHS, and I don't think they ever released it on DVD. But you might be able to find a copy on Ebay or Amazon.

Nice! Hey I still have the ol' VHS. Finally found a use for it again =) Thanks!

Yeah as of now the Freshwater episode of Planet Earth is my favorite just because cichlids made it in there. I am still waiting for Discovery Channel to Discover the lakes for themselves because that ecosystem is fantastic!

I agree, they could shoot an entire HD series there and I'd be the first in line to buy.

Good one Orion, I had forgotten about Jewel of the Rift. That was a great documentary... I can confirm it runs on the Nat Geo channel every once in awhile too!

The first time watching planet earth in HD was  stunning... I hope there are more documentaries in time that are even a fraction as good.

Update: I googled, a couple copies are floating around amazon marketplace/ebay
Jewel of the Rift : Amazon.com

UPDATE 2: If you google, it will come! Do a bit of sludging on google for a few minutes, you'll find it up for download!
