I have this tank that I am trying to clean off the hard water stains from the sides. (It was use for a terainum in the past) I have used a buffing wheel with baking soda and water to "polish" the glass up but it still has a hazed etched look to it.
Any sugestions on how to make it look clear again.

is it like a milky white color or an rusty brown color? the glass on my tank hood is realy hazy, milky white stuff that i cant seem to remove no matter how many times i have tried washing it. if it is a rusty color then use bleach, NOT ALOT! and fill the tnk with water and let it set overnight or up to 2 days, without fish or gravel or anything else and then rinse it about ten times keep wiping the tank fully with a towel, and make sure there is no bleachy smell left in it. but if it is the milky white stuff im at a loss as how to remove it.

try using vinegar, its safer than bleach and works quite well, along with it use HOT water and a little elbow grease and you should get it clean, also rinse a couple times (not as much as with bleach) I did the same thing and it worked well.

I agree I have had great results using vinegar(white) and extremely hot water. to rinse it I just left it in the bath tub and turned on the shower to flush it all out then I let it air dry a couple of days. Then with no smell I cycled the tank with no problems. Good Luck.

Yes it is a milky white. The big dposits are gone after a took the wheel to now it is just lightly opaque white. Sounds like vinager is going to be the next try. the little elbow grease will be useing the buffing wheel on it again. Thanks for your responces.

How big is it, and do you know if it is an aquarium used as a terrarium or one built for reptiles? One built as a terrarium doesn't have as strong a glass, and you can only fill it about halfway with water. If you don't know, make sure to fill it outside or in a tub or something first, and check the glass for bowing once it's full.

A little extra dechlorinater will take out any remaining bleach if you chose to wash the tank with bleach.

Well I use the vinager razor blades & buffing wheel on it last night and all the big stuff is off but it seems like the glass it self is discolored. I will try different things things this week.

no this was an Aquarium used as a terrarium (half full of water other half with dirt and plants and frogs). Water stains are half way up the side.

While I was waiting for the tank to dry after the cleaning, I installed my new AHSupply 96 watt light. It is so bright! My son and I put it on top of the empty tank to see what it will look like. We pluged it in and we steped back to marvel in it's brilliance, presto the light comes out of the clips and smashes on the bottom of the tank!

My tank seems like it will be in the works forever!

I bought a new light from http://ahsupply.com/ and in the comments box I put that the light came out of the clips. I got a call from customer service yesterday he said that the clips sound bad and will send me new ones. He also asked about the light, I told him that it came today he said that he will credit my account for the light *SUPERSMIL and sorry for my troubles.
Now that is great customer service!*thumbsups
