I have 3 fish in my tank right now a red-eye tetra, 1 platy (I did have 2), and a small clown loach. The loach is nipping at my Platy's tail and it looks horrible. What should I do? Its a 10 gallon tank. I've had it a few months and its cycled and everything. I was planning on getting 2 angels, 2 dwarf gouramis, and a painted glass fish also. I'm just worried about that loach thats messing with the platy. Someone HELP! Thanks.

Welcome to the tank!!

First off, the clown loach will out-grow the 10g.
Secondly the tank will be overstocked with your choice of fish additions.
Not to mention that 2 angels require a much larger tank.

Perhaps the 10g is just too close quarters for the loach now and it is aggravated.

Also, the painted glass fish is most liked a dyed fish. See Death By Dyeing.org-Home

Is it possible for you to return the loach? They get too big (12") and they really need to be in groups of at least 3... maybe that's why he's going after the platy.

You might also put in some Melafix for the platy's tail. It'll help it grow back (as long as it's not still being nibbled on) and will prevent infection.

My Loaches tend to be nippy too, but because your fish are in such a small tank, the Platy probably has a much harder time finding a place to hide than my fish do. I agree that you'd be better off returning the Clown Loach; it's best to keep them in a larger tank and with friends. :)
