I know that clown loaches need to have company, but do they have to be with their own species?

would they be good with corys or pictus catfish?

Yes, Clowns need to be kept with thier own species. They will school with tiger barbs though, but I still wouldn't have less than 3 clowns together.

Just got some cool lil skunk botias and it is rather funny the way they try to hang out with the much larger clowns. Kinda like a lil brother trying to tag along :D

clowns would prefer there own kind as company. the more you have the happier they will be. and ecotank is dead on with the number, i wouldnt keep any less then 3 together.

ive got the same thing eco! my 55's current residents are 5 clowns and 3 yoyos, with three tiger barbs(getting more soon:)). the biggest two of each kind swim together alot, and the two smallest like to swim together(they play a game with the bigger loaches called "lets see where WE can fit through and YOU cant:D)

i saw queen loaches yesterday at the lfs, but i wasnt going straight home, and they looked kind of nippy, so i painfully drug myself out of the store. they had skunks for 99 cents each the last time i went.(didnt get any at the time, AAAAARRGGG!!! now they didnt have ANY...:( *kicks self in head)

Yeah, there seem to be a lot of skunk loaches around these days. We got ours for $1.49, which still seems like a good deal. I hear skunks can be a bit nippy too, but we will have to wait and see. They're in a tank with clown loaches and angels, so I think they will be kept in their place. :)

my clowns never really bothered my corys, my yoyos on the otherhand would whisker everybody in the tank, and the two smaller cory would run and hide (the biggest cory dont move for nothing hehe:D)

although, since ive seperated the cories from the loaches, the cories dont sit around as much, and are active all day.
