I have done his in the past and it's moderately successful. The only problem is that the 'discus' temperatures shorten the life of the cockatoos quite a lot, down to about 18 months - 2 years max I think. pH ranges mix ok, ditto hardness. They do go well with tetras, hatchets, pencifish, L-numbers, some cories, blah blah blah.
You can get apistogramma that are better suited for the high temps discus like i.e. nijssenni, panduro, and if you're really into acidifying your water these go real well with wild discus or heckels.
Similarly only certain cories do well with discus - many really struggle with the temps.
Should be ok with keyholes, you can get territorial issues if you try to keep several dwarfs in the same tank and there aren't enough territorial markers (and you'll need a lot), though David Soares famously kept 150 -175 in a 55, I assume he had a ton of dead leaves in there, and an auto water changer
