When I was younger I had a friend whos mother kept a saltwater aquarium. And I distinctly remembering the tank being very cold. She had a water cooler (like a refrigerator) hooked to the tank.

So my question: Are there any fish worthy of fishkeeping that are able to survive, or even thrive in refrigerated temperatures?

Lot's of people use chillers with their saltwater tanks. Especially when they are running metal halide lighting and it's summertime (and they have no air conditioning). Metal halides can heat up the water very fast.
There are other people who run chillers to keep temperate saltwater fish like catalina gobies, which are one of the most colorful gobies around, and which do not tolerate tropical temperatures very well.
In freshwater, I've heard of people using chillers to keep trout but that's about it.:D

Yes there are but the cost of a chiller is expensive as I know . As for most its not worth the price & is not worth the aggravaition. there are lots of fish that can handle the cold temps a lot of them breed espiecally natives. they breed in the fall when the temps are around 40-45 degrees f. There have been of chillers on ebay to give you an idea of price you can go there .

People will also use chillers to house goldfish and koi as well, which prefer water temps around 68oF. But as everyone else has already stated, chillers are very very expensive.
