color change!

ok so my apisto has been acting wierd! he changes from dark to light very often. when i get nere the tank he turns light when i leave he turns dark. why is this?

Fish will often change their coloring depending on their environment. This includes lighting and other fish/people. If scared, a fish can lose it's color and become faded in appearance. On the other hand, if the fish gets aggressive, it's appearance can be enhanced and become darker. I have a JD who generally is grayish blue in appearance, but if he gets all worked up he can turn jet black with some gray striping. Turning the lights from off to on will also display a faded color on your fish, as they were sleeping and it will return in some time when they gain activity and start their day ;-)

sometimes is can be what rich said... or maybe just warning colours to other fish as such...
