I'm getting two black gold fish from a friend who can no longer take care of her fish. The fish are about 2 inches long. I was wondering what kind of fish go along good with gold fish.

Personally I LOVE ballas and angel fish. So with that said what do you guys think I can do about adding fish?

angelfish and bala sharks really wouldnt go well with goldfish...angels and balas require warmer water and angels imo are to aggressive to keep with slower swimming non-aggressive fish such as goldfish

what size tank will you keep the goldfish in? they should have at least 10gal per goldfish

what type of goldfish?...i know you said black but are they the type that has bubbley eyes?

the type of fish that would make good tankmates kind of depend on the above questions but ones the come to mind are:

other goldfish
white cloud minnows
weather loach
hillstream loach
some corys
snails
ghost shrimp

Ditto what Lizwinz said :) Danios or guppies would probably do alright with the goldfish also...though they prefer a little bit warmer water they're ok in an unheated tank as long as you can keep the temperature from fluxuating too much.

I dunno that a goldfish needs 10 gallons a piece...but if you had about a 20 gallon tank you'd be fine with the 2 goldfish and a couple more. The reason goldfish need so much water is because they produce more waste than other fish their size so you either have to do a lot more water changes or have more water per fish.

Hello there. Welcome to the board.

The fish the others mentioned are good tankmates for a goldfish.

The balas get kinda big. Like 12 inches+. Also, I think they like to school. So a very large tank is needed for balas.

What size tank do you have?

I'm kinda inheriting all this stuff. So I'm not sure what I'm getting but I really want fish again...my family moved and now I have my own room and such so I can have a tank once again.

My main problem is that I dunno what size tank I'm getting. I do know I'll have a filter, bubble post, and rocks...not sure about the syphon and furnishings for the tank.

If I want say...3 balas what size tank would I need when they're are fully grown? NOTE: I will not place my gold fish with the balas.

The gold fish are the bubble eyed chinese style goldfish(to my knowledge). I've never seen these fish and mainly just want to help a friend get rid of her fish to a good keeper and get back into keeping fish.

Is it possible to mate balas

Tank size - 100 gal+ maybe? I have read that they are kinda active and sometimes swim into the glass. So a lot of swimming space is needed.

Mating balas - Hmm...not sure. I don't see why not.
