I am wanting to get silver tip tetras. I have a 29 gallon tank. I have asked two different pet stores how many I could get. One says only 5 and the other says ten or 20. Hmmm do I believe. I also would like to get another type of tetra along with them. Everyone says I should get fish similar size or larger. what do u recommend. Thank u

I myself would honsetly only get five or six of the silver tip tetras in that size tank. from what I looked at, the can grow to usually 2.5-3 centimeters or 1 inch-ish. yes, if you used the rule one inch of fish per gallon that wouldnt fill up all the space you have available, but in my opinion it might be boring to have a large school in that size tank, they have nowhere to swim around together as a school. Also to consider is the amount of surface area each fish would use for oxygen. that you could calculate at this site, just need to know length and width of your tank and going with about one inch per fish figure out if it would work- "How Many Fish?" You also stated you would like another type of tetra to go along with them, but from what I've read those guys aren't very nice to other kinds of fish that are of similar or smaller size. I don't know from experience, maybe somebody else could help you with that. There is always so much to consider when you get new fish... Is your tank cycled?

In my experience, Hasemania nana (Silver Tipped Tetras) are very peaceful fish as long as they are kept in a proper shoal. I've kept them with microrasbora (less than half their size) with no issues at all, as well as other similar sized tetras, live bearers, and gourami.
