considering........ Severums(maybe)

Are Severums easy to care for?
what type of water do they require?(ph,temperature, etc.)
how often should i do a water change?. What are some suitable tankmates?

would a 77 gallon suffice?

Is there a way to tell a male Severum from a female Severum.

Another quick question, i have a 55 gallon tank sitting in my basement, doing nothing. How many Severums would fit in there?.

Can BP's be added as well?

someone here has, i seen it somewhere, 2 sevs and 3 BP's in a 65. sevs are relativly peaceful for cichlids, and should get along with BP's as long as they all have theyre own space to call theyre own.

My 55 has - 6 severums - 2 Oscars - 1 Lima shovel nose - 4 Blue acaracs - 3 sailfins - 1 Moorii - 2 Mbuna - 1 Hap - 2 B Parrots.

Needless to say, it's a busy tank - lol - but of all the fish in there the Severums pretty much get along fine with everyone.

I have noticed the "lemon" coloured Severums seem to have slightly more fragile fins than the blue/green Sevs, other than that no problems with them at all - tough little fish. had mine since they were nippers - 6 months on and they're full grown at 6 inches.

keep an eye on the mix bro.....a very close eye, dont want you to have to start pulling bodies.

LOL Managuense - I'm on top of it - there's a 75 waiting to go into service, then I'll split half of them off and things will be ok (for a while) - but it shows just how easy going Severums can be.....

PS - with a shovel nose you don't pull bodies - you just get a fat shovelnose

i often hear the stocking at 40-50 gallons per severum.a 85-125 is needed for breeding.they like most all fish are quite adaptable,but 6.5-8.2 is optimum ph range.waterchanges should be weekly or more.

They are not very pretty, not a lot of action, they breed like rats and you can't sell the fry....Why Severums??

Regarding the size of the tank, they will be happy living in the toilet and will probably breed even there just as long as you dont flush!
