I've been thinking lately about converting my tank into a cichlid tank and i wanted to get a pair of Convict cichlids. First off could they get along with my current tank setup? Second, How do you tell the difference between males and females?

okay. I'm probably gonna get rid of my red fin shark. Its having problems staying up right. also would it be okay with some neon tetras? I know since they're both from south/central america they might be compatible.

I got the cichlids today. Male and a female. Names are Nightshade and Chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum usually leads the way and if Nightshade gets separated he panics until she comes back and gets him. I think they're bonding pretty well. I have a decoration that forms a cave, will that be good for breeding them?

There have been some developments I'm worried about. Now whenever the male goes into his cave the female chases him out. Then again they're both around an inch in length so it might be there age. Should I be worried?

I noticed that site said that the fish could be in a 10 gallon tank, This isnt possible is it, the fish grows to be 6 inchs
Matt bred them in a ten gallon though I still don't recomend it.

Ummmmmmmmm Lets see I had a male that was 3 times the size of the female and they **** out baby's galore. I wouldn't worry to much.

If the male is beating the living crap out of the female, Try adding a 2rd female. He will choose the baby making machine aka female. The extra will A: Get the living hell beaten out of her, B: Get killed when spawning acours, C: Get Removed and paired with another male.

Actually, the female beats the crap out of the male.
Also, there are several caves they could choose from.
