my female convict is in the process of laying eggs!!!! so now i guess i know the other one is a male!!! i have a few problems tho... 1. they are with a firemouth... what do i do with him??! 2. should i leave the parents with the fry or will they eat them??? 3. what temp should the water be??? 4. whats the best food for them???? 5. what about lighting?? i've never had this happen before so i need all the help i can get!!!!!!!! i dont want all of them to die because of me! oo one more thing.... should i replace the whisper filter with a sponge filter so the babies dont get sucked up??! any info is well apreciated!! =)

Calm down! LOL i know it can be a happy and stressful time your first time.
Convicts are GREAT parents. They will most likely eat their first batch of eggs but sometimes they don't.
what size tank. I'd leave the firemouth in because the parents will keep him away.
If they lay eggs the water temp. is fine
Same with lighting. I turn the light off at night.
They shouldn't get sucked up if thee intake is not near them.
I fed mine with Liquid Fry (availible at LFS) and finely crushed Cichlid Flakes. I feed them 2+ times a day.
Will only take a few days to a week for them to hatch.
Keep looking around where the parents guard and you might see little wigglers. They will cling to the rocks or w/e for a while but soon become free swimming.

i put a divider in the tank for now.. the firemouth should be fine with the small space for a little while... he stays in his cave most of the day anyway.. i feel bad i had to cut back his space when the tank was already to small but its the safest thing to do for now... i have a 20 gallon goin for the juvies (if they dont get eating before then) but if they dont make it that far along i will put the parents in there i guess.. then if they breed agian no other fish will be in harms way...i will keep updates on the eggs.. if they get eaten or not or if they hatch and that kind of thing =)
yah i know its not the best idea... but i didnt want to stress out the parents ... however i changed my mind and im goin to try to catch the firemouth (it will be easier because he doesnt have far to go) and im going to put him in the 20 all by himself... so all the convicts can be in the 15 gallon by themselves and then i have a 10 gallon cycling if i have to move anyone because of over crowdedness (if the eggs/fry dont get eaten)
what other fish could i get to go with the firemouth?? cuz i know that they get big and i dont want to overcrowd the tank... and i know the convicts might eat the eggs/fry or they might not survive... which might not be a bad thing because i will be ready for them next time!! lol... it would be nice to have a few that grow up tho =)
maybe i will just get another firemouth (if i can find one the same size) but i dont really want to breed them and i dont know if mine is male or female (no sign of the fat storage bump yet so maybe female) i dont have any pictures yet.. but my cousin said i can barrow her camera and take some!! so it all depends on when i can get the camera from her... most likely anytime soon =)

10 gallon : 3 sunburst gouramis and i think an austrailian rainbow fish (it doesnt really look the same) with a clay pot and a few fake plants
15 : 2 convicts and their eggs (not eaten yet) with a clay pot, some fake plants and a cave.. and the firemouth whos waiting to be moved
20 : im in the process of adding the plants and claypot then i will put the firemouth in if the water test comes out right
