I have seen some convicts on the net and thought they were pretty cool. I was wondering if it would at all be possable to have 2 in a 10gallon. Maybe with lots of decorations and what not so there is alot of places to hide. I would like some and have no room for a 20 gallon unless I loose both the 10s I now have and I dont really want to do that as I like the fish I have now.

Just a passing thought. No real plans on it yet

in all honesty you could put a single pair of cons in a 10 gallon if you have adequate caves and such.

a 20 long or bigger is a better alternative.....or you may follow the excellent advice above and get some shellies like the multies, ocellatus, brevis, etc.

Thanks Mori and Mana

I have looked into shell dwellers. I wanted them originaly but no one in town has any, and I figured they would want an arm and a leg to have them sent in. But everyone has convicts it seems.

I was also thinking about getting some rams or other dwarfs but they need such acidic water, Mine comes outta the tap at 8.2 and if they need ~6.0 it would be too much work.

Ill take your guys advice and see about those shell dwellers. It might not be as hard to get them as I thought.

Thanks again

unless the rams you are talking about are wild caught you dont need any special ph bro.

captive raised fish are very hardy and tolerant of higher ph (or lower) than what they get in the wild.

if you like the south american dwarfs i would get them. dont worry about your ph..... all these guys need is good-clean water and they will grow like weeds.

Sure! go ahead put 2 convicts in a 10....as long as they are the only inhabitants.

Rams are a very nice choice for a 10 gal with lots of plants and hiding places.

Shelldwellers are awsome! A few would be pretty cool in a 10 gal. Put sand in, with mostly rocks and little plants. Make it really look like a cichlid habitat! :D

^ right above. Everyone says Discus require a certain pH but a lot of people i have talked to say the pH isn't a real concern its the water quality. Keep it clean and at a certain temp. and you should be fine!
