ok so fish hobby has been a part of my life for about 2 years now...im currently dealing with a 46 gal bow front....this ive had set up for 8 months...im very knowlegable with fresh water fish...

what do u guys think about me switching to salt water?
i was thinking about selling my complete setup...(46 bowfront tank and stand, marineland biowheel 50 gal, aqua clear 50 gal, 36 inch light strip, 200W heater for i dunno probably $250...)

anyways...

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL OF THE ABOVE THIS IS WANT I NEED...

WILL I BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TRANSITION EASILY?
IS IT REALLY THAT MUCH MORE THEN STARTING UP A CICHLID TANK?

oh FYI im thinking about jus going something easy like a smaller tank or maybe i could keep my 46?

The transistion isn't too hard, but it does cost a bunch more on start-up than FW since the live rock is so expensive. A 46g is a good size for a first SW tank, you can get a decent variety of fish in there and it's big enough to stay stable. If you get a smaller tank (under 20g) your fish selection is severely limited.

Ya I second keeping the 46g (unless you have treated with copper meds in there ever before)

You will want approx 40-60lbs of LR, Couple powerheads, protien skimmer etc...

Tell us a little more about what you are interested in keeping in the tank and we can then better help you?

well lets see i don't wnat to do coral, i jus want to simulate a live rock bed...stick with small fish, clowns gobbies...all an all simple fish to keep...soo can u recommend some fish to get?

and correct me if im wrong but ill be needing at least 20lbs of live sand with a mix of crush coral....

filtration im guessing fluval 305 or 405?

protein skimmer

new light bulb...i have a single tube im guessing i should get a double tube or another light switch...

im guessing ill no longer be able to use my marineland bio wheel

probably another heater...or will me 200w be sufficent?

and one more power head to add to the one that i have now?

i know its not good to use the same gear as the stuff u had for a fresh water but should it be alright if i clean everything out perfectly?

Alot of neat fish. Depends what you like.

For sand you could do aragonite (basically sand from the ocean) or sand

A fluval isnt necessary. You could run that Aquaclear without any media for surface agitation.

Skimmer- yes. Aim for a good brand.

Light bulb- if youre not doing corals lighting doesnt matter, just whatever amount looks nice to you.

I wouldnt bother with the biowheel

The heater should be fine

Another powerhead wouldnt hurt, can never have too much flow.
