ok, so I got my first Cories ever yesterday... Pygmy Cories. They're too cool! I have them in QT in a 5 gallon right now... I threw in half an algae water last night, and a couple of them seemed to go for it... for a bit... When I woke up this morning, just about all of it was still there...

Whenever I threw in a wafer for my oto and 3 guppies, they'd eat that wafer, never a trace of it.... I use Hikari sinking algae wafers, which are meant for bottom feeders...

Is there anything else the Cories will eat? They eat zuccinni, right? But what else could I try to feed them? I'm going to drop by PetCo this afternoon after work, since im near one and see if I can find something else... suggestions? Should I just not try feeding them anything else till they eat the wafer?

Hey, emmanuelchavez, this is what I feed my emerald catfish (no, they're not true corydoras but are often lumped in with them and, I presume, behave much like them): Hikari sinking wafers and blackworms. They're slow to get to the food, but they do (well, half the blackworms typically dive into the substrate before the catfish can find them :p).

Those are exactly what I feed them. I don't have blackworms though. My little guys seem to swim pretty fast, especially when the dogs come running into the room making lots of noise. lol.

It looks like they ate the rest of the algae wafer, like they had much of a choice huh? lol.

I only have a .7 oz bag of algae wafers, which I got when I got my Oto, so I'm going to get some more this weekend, and some sinking shrimp pellets. I gotta remember to buy zuccinni too.... I'll probably try some adult brine shrimp when I get back from spring break.

Could I get away with leaving a big piece of zuccinni in the 5 gallon for the pygmies while I'm away for spring break? I'm going to be away for 9 days... My dad's already going to be feeding both my bettas, and I've got "vacation" food for the other 2 tanks... I may just have him feed them an algae wafer every other day...

Thanks for ya'lls feedback!

mine love sinking shrimp pellets also it could have been sinceyou just bought them that they werent hungry.
I just assumed they'd be hungry, since when I got them, they hadn't been fed yet (the guy was just starting to feed some of the other fish, and was working his way down to the pygmies). And I didn't feed them until it was almost lights out.

I use Tetramin variety wafers. They love them. I also feed all my fish TetraColor granules. They sink to the bottom fast and the cories love them. One of the two will eat shrimp pellets. Of course they love the flakes that fall to the bottom as well. Both of mine seem to ignore zucchini.

Some times new fish won't eat till they're settled, give them a day ot two they'll eat. My cories algae wafers, shrimp pellets and occationally blood worms. I keep trying to feed them veggies but lately they're just not intrested.

Well, I've had the pygmies for about a month now and they all dart straight for the algae wafers or shrimp pellets once I drop them in. Some of the pygmies in the 15 gallon even seem to be helping the Otos and Snail(s) pick the algae off the plants and glass. I originally thought they were just swimming up for air (which I've seen them do on occasion), but they stick around in the same area in the glass, and there's plenty of algae on all 4 glass walls... :D There's lots of poop everywhere though, because of all the algae the otos and cories are eating. I'm sure the white clouds contribute a lot too, lol.

When I had the peppered cores in the 5 gallon in QT, I saw them "carry" the shrimp pellets to the back of the tank, behind the ornament, where I couldn't really see them. Sometimes they'd take it inside the ornament. :p

I finally tried giving my albino cory algae wafers again- just a fourth of a wafer. The next morning there was no trace of it left, haha. I tried again and got up earlier the next morning and was lucky enough to see him snacking on the very small remains of the wafer. :p He was eating only shrimp pellets before.

EDIT- I am VERY jealous that you have been able to save $500 for your new tank! ;)

haha, that's negative $500, I have to get other things before I could start saving for my tank... I've got at least $200 going for 2 new tires for my car, and $300 for summer school ($600 for summer school if I decide to take 2 classes, i'm still thinking about it). The good thing though, is that my birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks, and my grandmother is just awesome when it comes to birthday money.... then I'm expecting Uncle Sam to keep his word and send me a check for that stimulus act they passed, and then I'll be working full-time this summer, so I'll get that money quickly!! :D

I guess I should have read this posting first. I jsut bought three Spotted cories, or melanistius cories. I bought Hikari's bottom feeders wafer algae that says its designed for catfish and bottom feeder fish too and I three in a couple wafers, even right in front, but no interest. The darn barbs greedily were getting to it.

Then I tried putting one in a cave. Maybe since they are new to the tank they will take awhile to adjust? They dont move around too much right now and I think they may not be real hungry since I saw one or two go after the wafer very briefly.
