Can't believe it - have been trying to get my peppered corys to spawn for a while, and last night they did.....no cold water change, no drop in water level....just spontaneous egg laying!
Once I'd calmed down, decided to get a breeding net set up to put the eggs into for safety. In the time it took to get the net set up, though, all eggs were gone except for two under a crypt leaf! Well, I got the leaf into the net on an off-chance that the eggs will hatch.
And the egg culprit? A very fat, happy looking clown loach!

I hate situations like this. On the one hand I am thrilled to hear about the egg-laying. On the other, I am saddened that they became a snack for the clown loach.

Perhaps this wasn't even their first spawning. Could it be that it has occured in the past and went unnoticed, except by the egg thief?

lol, fishdude. Yeah, it's possible they have spawned before - I'm sure they got frisky a couple of months ago, but I never saw the eggs.....the clown probably got to them first.
So far so good on the 2 saved eggs - I'm pretty sure I can see a little grey sliver in each egg. No fungus either, so the breeding net trick seems to be working. Been 48hrs now, will keep you posted - if these 2 eggs hatch and get to adulthood I'd be amazed, but you never know.........;)
