could i get 2 corys for my 10 gallon tank? in there now is

4 glow light tetras
4 harlequin rasboras
and 4 fancy guppies

i heard if you layer your tank eg. 5 suface fish 5 mid swimming fish and 5 bottom feeders you can have more fish because its not as crowded so i figure i have 4 suface fish (guppies) and 8 mid-bottom swimming fish it would be ok to get 2 small corys but i though i should make a thread just to be sure so could i get 2 corys too finish my 10 gallon off?

BTW- im giving my 10 gallon a makeover with a more natural look - rocks wood and plants see it on rate my tank soon :)

dont forget to vote! :)

I think you could pull it off, although I think 4 guppies are a bit much . But hey, make sure you have a good filter and keep the water really clean. Also, look for the smaller cories species. (that I can't seem to name right now..)

Get dwarf corries if anything. Do you have plants in the tank? If you do you'll be all right imo with regular water changes. If you don't have plants, do 2 30-40% water changes every week. What kind of filter? Also be ready to move some fish out when they all reach max size.

Crowding isn't so much of an issue as bioload. Fish that swim in different parts of the tank will definately help but it all comes down to bioload. IMO, the cories might snag as much food that was going to decay as they give off in waste so they may cancel themselves out. Bottom line, keep up on tank matenance and water changes and you should be all right. Tell us how its going when you post ur tank.

thanks for that fisheysmell yeah i do have plants in the tank im going to get some more tomoorow aswell in there is 2 pieces of diffwood 4 rocks about 5 plants will be about 10 tomorrow. its a sponge filter i do a 50% water changew every saturday will i have to change that would 2 30-40% changes be better?

i have just bought some leopard corys today sorry i didnt read ur theard in time these will be ok though right? there about an inch each now and they get too 2.75 inches max size.

i should post my tank soon but now its in a mess but by tomoorow when i put my new plants and other piece of diffwood in it should look much better :)

I think you'll be fine. 2.75 might be little big in the long run but you can always move them to a little bigger tank in the future. 1 50% is probably fine if you have plants. I just think 50% changes in a 10 gallon is kind of dramatic but if it works, don't worry about it. You sound like you have plenty of hiding places and stuff on the bottom so the coires should be fine.

Specifically what brand/model of filter do you have? Is it DIY?

Keep us posted.

Trust me, with the amount of fish I have in my 75 gallon (Last quess was at least 80, with 5 big plecos) that are are doing fine, I can tell ya that as long as you do water changes and keep the filters in great shape, it will be fine.

the filter i have is one that came with the tank it isnt diy its just a sponge one i dont no if you will no it cos im in england but its called a clear jet mini internation power filter its pretty good but sometimes it keeps me up at night it quite lound :)

the reason i do 50% its more like 40 to be honst is cos i only do one a week so i take that little bit more out to keep it clean but now with these guys mabe there will be les rubbish in the gravel and yeah there quite a few spots yo hide in just in case ;) thanks for that redjln ill keep you guys updated but for now they seem fine :)
