Sup everyone,
I have a 5" crayfish in a tank, with a few assorted fish. He has a tendency to eat everyone else in the tank. Within the last few weeks, he's eaten a kuhlii loach, a gold algae eater, 2 smaller crayfish (about 1" each), and 9 neon tetras. Not all of these fish were in the tank at the same time, I put new ones in as the old ones "disappeared".
I read that crayfish only eat small, slow moving fish that they can catch, and tend to leave everyone else alone. I think he ate the loach, algae eater, and other crayfish because they stayed in the bottom of the tank (and were smaller and slower than him). Neon tetras also have a tendency to stay at the bottom.
However, I have had 2 x-ray tetras in the tank almost the entire time, and he's never really bothered them. Oh he's tried, and tried, but the x-rays are just too fast. They just zip out of the way whenever "bill the butcher" (my crayfish) tries to rush at them with his claws raised.
So my question is, what other fish can be kept with my crayfish? I'm assuming other fast fish like certain tetras, and danios would be good. What about a larger fish, like a 3" oscar?
BTW, crayfish are wicked cool.
