Crayfish doesn't stand a chance. Cichlids and Pacu will devour poor guy. He might last about 3 days. I bought 3 BIG ones from lfs and he told me that they wouldn't last in my tank of Jack Dempsey's and Firemouths........But, I wanted them so bad, I bought them. Three days later, there were shells, but no meat.

I don't recommend it. I would get them if I had schooling fish that were fast enough to get away from them. They don't back down from anything, but they just can't handle the cichlids!!!

Good luck, man!!!

Many larger cichlids and other fish will eat your crayfish if they get the chance. They can be kept however you must provide adequate hidding places for them. Algae wafers are great for feeding the crawdads. Just drop one near by and watch them snatch it up. Crayfish will also nibble at your plants' base often uprooting them. Having larger fish force them to hide and this becomes less of a problem. If your fish do eat them they will definately appreciate the tasty meal. My Sunfish can devour a large crayfish in a matter of minutes. The crawdads that find hiding spots are the ones that live.

Are crayfish that different from crawdads? I had 2 crawdads in my tank for a couple of years and I had to take out every fish that was in the tank with them. The crawdads would take the sinking food that I would give them and chew it up and spit it out around their head. Then my other fish would try to eat the food and the crawdad would grab them and kill them. It was a clever ambush that happened too many times.
