Hi all,

Dam, its ages since I have been here!

Alas, I have bad news. It was annouced the other day that the water supply in my area has been contaminated with cryptosporidium. The has been a huge amount of people struck down by the bug, its awful. The water is not safe to drink and has not been for several week, however it was only announced the other day!!

I had been using water out of the tap for my tank, and my betta has died. Am I right in thinking that the cryptosporidium was the most likely the cause of this? He went very quick, all water readings seemed OK before.

I was looking to stock my big tank, but I'll wait untill this issue is resolved. County hall, says they have "no idea" when the issue will be resolved.

Hi there
I also received the water alert yesterday with no info about how it may affect pets. I read that UV units are used to treat water for humans as it kills the oocysts of the cryptosporidium. I'm going to buy a couple of aquarium UV lights for my tanks to be on the safe side. I hope you don't lose any more fish.
Cheers, Aud1
