Curious if $140 is to much for an overflow?

I found a guy that says he will drill two overflow holes in a 125 gallon install the bulkheads and overflows for $140, is that a reasonable price? I've never drilled glass and don't want to make a mistake. Thanks in advance for any feedback

Most of the LFS' in my area charge $20-$25/hole. Glass shops seem to be out to lunch at $60/hole. Really it depends on the going rate in your area.

Bulkheads are cheap for the most part at around $20 depending on size and type. The overflow it's self... depends on the style...

he said it'd be $250 to put 2, 1" 3/4" holes for the overflow and put the bulkheads in, and he said 2 return holes, he said I need one on each side, and install the bulkheads for those, he'd put a 5' overflow box acrossed the back. the $140 quote was no return holes at all and one overflow box. thought it seemed a bit steep, but wasn't sure I dont feel real confident about drilling myself, the quote came from Waters Of The World in Evansville Indiana, has anyone ever dealt with them? Thanks in advance

Fora Cafro style overflow and all the plumbing connections (tank side anyway) That doesn't sound too too horrible... Gotta remember he has a mark up and his time is worth something too.

BTW I double checked, bulkheads can be less than half what I posted previously posted.

Basically what it comes down to is what is your time worth? and are you confident in doing it? If your time is worth alot and/or you aren't confident... By all means get someone else to do it :).

Is that decent style set up on overflow? I'm looking forward to getting my tank done the right way, and get rid of these junk canisters, I also plan on putting about 150# of LR in for Biological filtration, Do you know good skimmer for around $200? Thanks for all of the input. Helps with a lot of hard decisions lol

Well I like what I've seen for the cafro's. I know when I finally do manage to switch my 90 over to salt it'll be the style I go with. Normally though it would go the full length of the tank.

The best I could say so far as a skimmer is read up... EVERYONE has an opinion on "good", "suitable", "best" and they all (for the most part) can make good arguements for and against any of them. At a $200 budget though, you'll probably have to look used for your size tank.

So far as the LR, SURE! lol, take a look at this thread from a few days ago. http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/saltwater-general-discussion/55418-aiptasia.html
I'm not at all saying you shouldn't use LR, just education ;).

Please do keep in mind, if you ask 10 people how to do it properly you'll get 6 different answers and nothing saying they aren't all right ;). There are very few hard fast rules in this hobby.

Don't like the magnums eh? The reason I like them is exactly why you said you didn't earlier. I LOVE how well they remove particals. But yes, they are quite labour intensive.

Its quite simple to drill holes...glass holes.com has kits you can buy that include the bit a template and a bulkhead. Most places around here charge $10-15 a hole
