Cut out the carbon

What's the best way to "remove carbon from your filter" if your filter is a Penguin biowheel with the carbon bank the actual cartridge frame?

I'm adding peat to my filters and I need to remove the carbon.

What i do is cut the top or tear it apart from the plastic backing. Then just run it under water and work/shake out all the carbon. Then simple add the rinsed peat where the carbon was previously.

I've just cut the fiber with a razor blade and the rest pretty much like depthC.
