cycling new 28g....

ok so i set up a new 28g aquarium last wednesday.
im doing a fishless cycle....i added enough ammonia to register 4 to 5.
i have a aq70 filter running and have my heater set at 82 degrees.
ive been testing the ammonia everyday but it still hasnt changed.

is that normal for this amount of time?

any help would be great

You can raise the tank temp up to 85-87, that will speed it up. Since there are no fish, this won't be a problem. Make sure your water has been treated with water conditioner.

It'll take a lot longer than this . :) But patience pays off.

If you want to rush it up a bit, and you know someone with an established tank, see if you can swish their filter media through your tank every couple of days. Even once would help seed the bacteria population. Or, maybe they'd give you a cup or two of gravel to put in a mesh bag or an old pantyhose and place into your filter media box.
