I am fishless cycling with fish food. first time cycler . How long will it take( 10gallon tank ) I have a filter. I have been cycling for one week without water changes and my water smells really bad once you get close to it.

You should be doing water changes and testing your water every other day AT THE LEAST. Do you have a freshwater master test kit ( Freshwater Master Test Kit - API )? You need to be testing your water on a continual basis so that you'll know when your tank is safe for fish. There is no set time for a cycle. Some take three to four weeks, others longer.

lol it would be less smelly if you went with pure ammonia lol
everything sounds right though. the tank is cycling and you need to get that API test kit to monitor the progress.
