D&D Sulphur Nitrate filter

Anyone used one of these pieces of kit on a freshwater tank? I'd love to hear of your experiences.

The prospect of zero nitrates in an overcrowded cichlid tank is pretty tempting.........

Seems to me that these pieces of kit are being used mainly by marine fishkeepers but there's maybe a genuine application for those of us who want to keep overcrowded cichlid tanks.
They sound a bit fiddly and delicate to set up and the penalty for setting up incorrectly can be severe by the sound of it.

Hence I was hoping that others might have experience of using one.

Second one seems to work fine for me, first isn't essential anyway, just a picture of a tube full of sulphur balls and a couple of inlet/outlet pipes!
