Danio with odd growth

Hey all, I need some opinions here. I have a long-finned angel danio that appears to have a large growth on his side. I've had this fish for quite a long time. This first appeared a couple of weeks ago, his side seemed to be offcolor with red streaks, now it has grown to today where it is a big lump. He is bloated, but this bump protrudes more than the rest of his body. He does have some scales sticking out from his profile view, but from the top his scales do not stick out, so I'm not sure it could be dropsy. Anyone have any opinions? Should I quarantine him? I think I'm going to start dosing the tank with melafix to start, if anyone has any idea, please share. Pics are posted below.

eek, yeah I think I'd quarentine him if you have a place that would work. If whatever it is bursts you could infect your whole tank. Could it be a parasite?

Wouldn't the other fish already be infected if it were a parasite? I have no idea what it could be, it's definitely something internal though. It's so odd, I've had this fish a year, why would it just be showing up now?

I'm not sure any other ways that tb presents itself, but thats not the usual one. The usual way you see fish tb is the fish kind of wasting away, getting really skinny and then the crook in the back.

Have you added anything new to the tank recently?

I don't think parasites would be obvious in all of the fish in the same tank, just like how ich doesn't show on all of them to begin with ya know?...but then again I don't know a ton about parasites, and there isn't just one kind. I do know that some of them come out of the fish like through the sides like that, but I wouldn't think it would be a bump for too long.

Thanks so much for the opinions froggy. I have extra tanks, but no extra heaters at the moment, and since it is around 0 here right now, I'm hesitant to put him in an unheated tank. Maybe I will run out tomorrow and get another heater. I dosed the tank with melafix. I do still have some anti-parasite food, should I try giving him some of that, or do you think that would be worthless at this point? Maybe anti-bacterial food would be worth a try? I'm really stumped by this one...

...I don't know how any medicated food would hurt him?? Might as well give it a try. Danios are ok without a heater usually...if you put him in a smaller tank and maybe put it somewhere in your house where the temperature doesn't fluxuate much...I doubt its 0 in your house ;) (hope its warmer anyway!! lol)

Standing water gets down to 60 in my house! I picked up another heater today, but I'm thinking it won't do much good. He looks much worse today, even more bloated. Still no scales sticking out though. Not eating either.

I'm sorry to say that this poor guy developed severe dropsy and died overnight in quarantine. I'm carefully monitoring the rest of the tank, hopefully no one else will show any signs of this odd growth.
