I think I'd like to move my danios to my shellie tank when I get it set up. It's a 20 gallon long btw. I've read on other sites that the mix should be okay but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with both in one tank.

I'm thinking they'll prolly like the added salt in the shellie tank and the extra lenght of the tank to dart around.

Yeah I don't see any problems with it. Depending on the type of shellie you get, they may actually make them a little bit more warry of them at first, but they should adapt very quickly to them.

They will make excellent dither fish.

yeah danios could sort of act like substitute cyps, they probably act the same sort of way, sticking to the top of the tank and letting the shellies have the bottom.

I'm still trying to decide what I want. Most people have suggested I get multies. I was talking to someone last night who suggested that the danios wouldn't do well in the high pH and that I might do better with glass fish (I think they're called Chanda.)

Any body got thoughts about that?

I think Danios will do fin in the higher pH, at least according to some information I read off of some site...

Anyways, I'd suggest either multies or if you can get your hands on them, "occies"
http://www.shelldwellers.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=816

or "punks", though they are also rockdwellers
http://www.shelldwellers.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=819

Or maybe even the beautiful "Stapps" or similar looking "Hecqui
" (which grow larger)
http://www.shelldwellers.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=812

I'd rank them as
1) Occies
2) Stapps/ Hecqui
3) Punks

PS: This is my 100th post! *thumbsups

I personally would'nt suggest it. I think the daniosw would annoy the shellies to no end. They are sooo curious, those danios. I had two tens setup next to eachother once. Multies in one and danios cycling the other. Well at the end of the ten with multies was a female trying to protect her brood. Everytime a danio would come into her view she would go crazy trying to attack it. So I had to put a piece of paper blocking her view. With that said I would'nt do it. But you never know untill you try.
Oh and as far as the water goes. They will be fine. Danios could live in sewer water. Just recently I have five danios which were cycling an apisto tank with a ph of 6.0. I netted them and threw them into an un cycled tank with a ph of 8.4. They did fine. Once had three danios living in a very small tupperware container, that I had forgotten about, for a month. They are some of the hariest fish I have come across.
