Well, the power has been off and on with thunderstorms the past two days. I checked my filter each time to make sure its working.
The last outage must have burned it up (its not in a surge protector). Anyway, I've been going 100 miles per hour to keep things normal in there.
Tell me if I'm doing the right things/did the right things.
1) Yank the old filter, bag the old filter media with some tank water and drop it in a bucket of tank water. Bag is cracked so it can get O2.
2) Put in my backup micro-filter with new cartridge. Shook the filter media on to the new filter and re-bagged the seeded filter.
3) Did a 30% water change to ensure the levels stay where desired.
4) (This is where I am at the moment)
Running to Petsmart (20mins away) to get a new filter, hopefully just like the old, so i can put the seeded filter back in and let it run normally. (Also picking up some live plants for my betta tank).
5) If this all goes well, I'll yank the backup filter, clean it, and store it incase this happens again. I'll also plug the new one into a power strip with surge protector.
6) I'll check my levels the next few days to make sure all goes well.
Sound good? Please let me know. I've never dealt with a crisis like this before...
Thanks all.
