Dead Shrimp

So..I recently brought 3 amano shrimp from my local Petco.

I put them in my 3 gal Eclipse tank which is fully cycled. There is a Crown Betta in it currently and some plants.

Over the week, 2 of my shrimps have died. They appear as these red bodies..not clear...almost like a cooked shrimp!

I checked my water and there is no ammonia, no nitrites, and trace nitrates. Temps are within 76 F.

What gives? What else could it be thats killing them? I dont think its the betta..

My old betta used to attack shrimp. I would suspect him.

Shrimp are also sensitive to nitrates. Do you know what those were (other than trace)?

the shrimp dont seem damaged or chewed on...not sure if the betta is the culprit.

the nitrates were the second level above 0 on my test strip. forgot what level it was.
