I use the Aquarium Phar. Freshwater Master Testkit, the wet kind. I currently use AmQuel but the bottle is about out so its time for a new dechlornator. I was wondering if the AmQuel gives false positives for ammonia with my test kits? If it does can someone reccomend to me a dechlornator that doesnt effect test results. Hows the Marineland stuff, Bio Safe?

I use Tetra's AquaSafe.

It's a little thick due to the "slime coat enhancer" but it does it's job dechloriniating. I will probably end up switching to a product that just dechlorinates when the AS runs out as the slime enhancer probably doesnt do anything. :)

I use only Prime by Seachem. It works very well. Detoxifies ammonia/nitrites/nitrates plus dechlors. And you can never add too much.

I have had tanks that re-cycled for some reason and by using Prime, I was able to keep the fish from stress and disease even though ammonia levels were 5ppm+! The same with nitrites!

I picked up some NovaAqua last night. That stuff is really slimy too. I accidently touched it and it was like a super lubricant or something. Prime looks good, but it was like $23 at the LFS for the small bottle. Maybe Ill order the 2 liter from Big Als next time I run low. Thanks for your suggestions.

Sodium thiosulfate. You should look for products that have it listed as their prime ingrediant. A few drops of the stuff and vigorous aeration overnight is the best form of dechlorination, and bypasses all the slimy "stress coat" crap. You can buy the stuff from Fisher Chemicals. A little pricey, but a little goes a long way. I nixed a bottle from the lab I used to work at.

Other then that, I don't use dechlorinators, unless my tap smells like a swimming pool. A little chlorine can be a good anti-parasitic.
