depressed gourami

about four days ago I got two sharks and a blue and a gold gourami. Yesterday my blue gourami got sucked up into my power filter. The two gouramis played so much and chased each other around the tank racing. Now after the one got sucked up into the filter the other one seems depressed just moaping around the tank. Any ideas on how to help it

that happened to my blue male after my female died. since they're still young i would say get another one of simialr size, but if they were "racing" i would assume that that's actually "chasing" and one was probably picking on the other. so just watch them carefully if you get a new one, and be sure the filter is gourami-proofed.

oh lol, i dunno, just make sure that no more get sucked up.

btw, how big was this gourami that got sucked up into the filter and what kind of filter was it? maybe we can give some suggestions

it was 3-4 inches long and it was a penguin bio-wheel mini filter. This was quite nasty because it reached the impeller housing.

Is there no netting you can put in the tank over the inlet?

I could not find a cap or netting to put on the filter tube

how did it die? what are your water parameters (ph, ammonia, temp, etc.)? how old was it?

im not sure but I used conditioners and things. Im getting the water tested tomorrow. It was about the same age as the blue one. I just went up to my room where the fishtank is and found it motionless on the aquarium floor.

lol, yeh a lot of chain store fish tend to be oldee and/or weaker. i suggest going to a private pet store or at least one where the people working know what they're talking about. you'll get healthier fish.
