What are you getting one for? Sorry I don't know very much about them. Just wondering why you think you need it.

yeh diatoms filters are only good for polishing and saltwater for diatom algae which is limited in FW

Yep they polish the water and make it look clean. But they are expensive and maybe you dont need it. It may just be your filter making small air bubbles so raise your water level if you think thats the problem.

I can think of a lot better uses for my money. Don't know anyone who actually uses one. Too high maintenance

May i ask what physoing is? A diotom filter just clears up the water further than your current filter can by taking very small impurities out of your water. It doesnt take place of water changes or anything. It isnt a filter run 24/7 its run once every 2 weeks or so for a couple hours to clear up your water. The cheapest ive seen one is the Whisper Diatom from Dr Fosters i believe for around $80 for the unit not replacement powder bags or cartridges.

Yeh they are only mechanical filtration to clean up tiny particles, just like a polish effect is what you would really get.

It sounds like it might be a worthwhile investment if one only uses it occassionally. Maybe link up with some other hobbyists and rent it out, eh?

i dunno i think its more for saltwater ppl who can have problems with diatoms in their water. Generally filter floss is good enough for polishing a FW tank of tiny particles.

i got a brackish water fish tank would it be bad to use it on that then go to my freshwater? would that screw it up?
