Dietry Requirements

I was closely watching my hermits trundle around the tank today when I noticed one of them walk over a spine shed from the green brittle star. I'm not alarmed (should I be?) because it is only one spine, but it did make wonder if I am meeting the dietry requirements of all my tankmates.
I am currently feeding everyone the same thing (and they are all accepting it) which is flake twice a day, with half a cube of frozen brine shrimp every other day or so. Please see my siggy for my list of critters.
Is this diet sufficient? Should I sub or add anything?
Any advice please?

it should be fine...you might try target feeding the brittle star some slightly larger meaty fare if you are concerned

Like maybe some other type of frozen food like mysis or squid? There's all sorts of more meaty foods you could feed besides the brine shrimp that your fish would probably enjoy

yep, like that stuff...or silversides, chopped up pieces of shrimp, mussel, etc

also brine shrimp isnt all that nutritious, mysis is far better.

I heard Camaro mention that yesterday in another thread. He said brine shrimp is not very nutritious - just water and fat. I've seen a pack of frozen cubes ot my LFS that has rows of 5 or 6 different foods in it. I think I'll give that a try. Thankyou guys.

I would try getting some stuff from the seafood section of the supermarket.

Well I think the cubes will be easier for now. Those'll give me a good choice to discover what is favoured and what isn't.
What is usable from the seafood counter? I'm assuming I should try anything, and then remove what isnt eaten?

anything that doesn't have preservatives added or flavoring should be fine...i use mussel and oysters b/c you can cut them into smaller pieces quite easily

Which means pretty much any seafood that is fresh and on the supermarket ice table, and not the artificial crab that I have in the fridge. Thanks guys. Soon my fish will be eating better than me!!
