Dirty Glass

Hi Guys,

My glass is really really dirty...slimy and ucky... what can clean it?

I have some snails... but my husband had the great idea of getting some crabs... so the SOME snails has turned into like 2 or 3. It's just that every time i see the glass its dirty, so would like some options. There isn't a pleco for salt water is there? I guess thats in a dream world.

Depending on what the slim actually is. What color is it? Different snails will go after different things. I'm just learning that myself. Better water quality might help too.

Try a Magfloat or an algae scrubbing pad. It worked wonders for me

Is it green hair algae or something else?

well i would have to say that it is a mixture between green alge and maybe red?

lower nitrates helps keep algae under control. what are your nitrate levels? are you using RO water?

it shouldnt matter, some algae build up is totally normal along the glass, get a mag float scraper, problem solved.

but shouldnt she try to find out why there is excessive algae?

Why I didn't suggest the magfloat, i dont' know. But yes, they work great.

I have a magnafloat... works great. but, I can't reach behind the filter or the skimmer, so i thought maybe there could be some sort of fish (like a pleco) that could clean the glass from the inside.

no, there is not, I don't even clean the back of my tank, just put a backround on it, wont be as noticable. Is it really an excessive algae problem? or are you just concerned with the algae on the glass?

they make long algae razor scrappers, but I agree with Ares that I dont bother cleaning the back as its not that bad and some algae isnt bad.

yea i got the blue backround on the back and i just let the algea bulid up on the back and sides or atleast what the snails leave behind and use the magna float on the front *thumbsups

I have had everything set up and running for a couple months now, but the tank has taken a backseat to life as there are a million other things that need to be done. Growing up is no fun.

No I had around 12 snails.

well just thought i would check to see if there were any other options.
