As you know I moved one of my yoyo loaches into the 5 gallon for snail clean up duty. Imagine my amazement when I noticed the thing has disappeared. I hadnt seen it since I put it in the tank so I used the fish net to try and see if it was hiding. I moved all the gravel in that tank to the point to where I can see the bottom and the loach is just gone. I have no idea where it is. The top has been on the whole time and just for the hell of it I looked on the floor and it isnt there. Do these things know disappearing magic tricks or something? I also lost the one in the 29 gallon but was able to find it under the big castle how it fit under there I have no idea. DO they always hide like this? Im just baffeled as to what happened to the one in the 5 gallon. Do you think when I do a water change I will find it?

I just checked the filter and its not in there either. In this tank there is java fern and java moss. The moss has grown a bit but its tied to the driftwood. I rechecked it and its not hiding in there at all. I know the shrimp couldnt possibly have eaten the thing. I just have no idea where it is. The last time I saw it it was digging under some java fern. I havent seen it since then. I moved the gravel in the spot where I last saw it but it wasnt there.

I would have to say just give it some time. When we first bought our loaches we couldn't find them for a week or two. Now they are always out swimming circles on the sides of the tank. And your right, it is amazing at how they can get into the smallest places. My husband thought one of ours was stuck underneath a rock, because it was laying on it's side. And then all of a sudden it moved and started swimming again. Weird!! But entertaining!

yeah i know people have said they've ripped their tanks apart looking for their loaches, i think someone even said they had the tank completely drained in a move... and then when they set it back up out popped a happy lil loach. as long as you didn't find him outside the tank i bet he'll show up soon!

I lost one of my kuhli loaches a good two or three weeks ago. I looked in the filter and didn't see her, nor do I see her in any of the hiding places. The other loach is always by herself now. I can't imagine where the loach could be unless she accidentally got stuck somehow or wedged herself in the gravel. =( Maybe she will eventually show up again. I hope that your yoyo loach does too.

I found that thing awhile ago. It was cleaning the snails out of the 5 gallon. When all the snails were gone I did a water change and there it was. It dug itself into the gravel. That one is back in the 29 gallon and I havent had a snail in either tank since then.
