Shrimp, as with all crustaceans, molt periodically. As the shrimp grows, their exoskeleton becomes too small. They shed the old one and grow a new one. If a shrimp has just molted, the new exoskeleton hasn't hardened yet, making it more vulnerable. It is probably hiding.

because i have this feeling thats its gone :/ i haven't seen it since friday when i cleaned my tank but when i clean my tank i am very carefull not to suck anything up especially my shrimp so i kept a good eye on both of them but on saturday i saw a shell thing floating around and i thought that it was still in there and it just shedded so i didnt' do anything about it and a week has passed and i haven't seen him :/ i'm pretty sure i didn't suck up the shrimp because i was watching them but i dunno what happened to him :/

Back in January or February, I was given 2 upside-down catfish (Synodontus nigriventris) that I put in my planted 75 gallon tank. I would guess that I see them on average once or twice a month. The rest of the time they stay hidden. I know they are both still there because I saw them both last weekend.
