Do rams need/perfer shells in the tank?

shells as in hiding places/decoration? or shells to alter the ph in the water?

rams are cichlids so they need caves and stuff to hide in such as pots etc.

SHould have seen the Rams at my LFS, they had like a powder blue one with black and yellow..and the normal looking one. They had some nasty ick..so I will see how they are doing in a week, then quarenteen them for my 30 planted. They were only $3.00 each. If someone else doesn't grab them.

Care should be taken with shells in aquariums especially if you are trying to keep your water on the acid side for your Rams.
Use something inert for your caves, failing that old well weathered clay flower pots are excellent. 8)

 my ram is MEAN! but anyway he hides most of thee time in a rock cave i built for him- he doesn't like people (maybe he can sense my hostility). if it is a big shell then that would be great. he is always exploring little crevices. they are kind of delicate, though (mine is the exception- i had three others that didn't last long)- sensitive to ammonia and need a low ph.
 lol mine kept eating off my angel's fins so i put him in a high ph brackish tank (it is the only other place i had to stash him), and he is still alive. hey, you can have mine! he's like that cute little puppy that you bought cause he was pretty, and then he chewed up all your favorite shoes and bites all the time.
