Tropical Fish Hobbyist, Aquarium Fish, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium, and Practical FishKeeping when I can get it. Borders sells the last one around here, but sometimes I don't get there before they're all gone. The rest of them I subscribe to.

i've never bought them because every one that i've picked up at the book store seems like too much fluff. i.e. a lot of pictures, articles about neat fish. but not "useful" information.

i'd be interested in knowing which of those magazines you consider the most "useful"

wow this is the best response i have ever got on a thread i started.the mag with the most practacal info i have found is freshwater and marine aqarium.it's mainly written by hobbyist themselves.i like tfh but sometimes it's a little to focused on cichlids, and marine life but the same could be said for f.a.m.a.
i've tried to check out aquarium fish but it's too thin and short articles as well.it can be tough to get any one of these mags as they all have small print runs.tfh prints about 30,000 copies each month.

Yes, I like aquarium fish very much b/c they always seem to have a equal protion of freshwater and saltwater topics. I was reluctent to buy fish magazines b/c I thought all they would have in them would be saltwater stuff. I only keep freshwater fish. I am planning on subscribing to AF soon. I also like TFH.

yea the other mags are heavy on saltwater, but it's a great way to learn.i'm still weary of aquarium fish because it's so thin,in need a lot to read.tfh is the largest, but i can read the whole thing in 2 hours.one of you said that there are too many ads in most mags, but you know what thats where i learned that there are so many diffrent ways to maintain a tank.why i would probably still have no clue what power compacts are.those ads can be a window to the perfect product for your tank.where i live fish technolgy is fairly low.the shop where i bought my first tank sells only hagen products, not bad but not the best when you have a special needs.i scearched the whole town untill i broke down and bought a copy of tfh. lo and behold here was everything i was looking for.thankfully more shops have become avalabile to me so i dont have to mail order evrey time i want something for my tank.so ads can suck but they can be cool too.
