hey i was just wondering...does it matter if an HOB filter is above the water surface or not? i was wondering because in all my tanks, the part of the HOB that puts the water back into the tank is partly underwater... i dont like the dripping sound it makes when its above the water line...but is this ok? does it really matter if its above the water line or not?

I don't like the waterfall sounds going on in my house, so all the outlets to my HOBs (2 x Emperor 400s, an AquaClear 300, and a Whisper 10) are below the waterline. The waterfall might help oxygenate the water a little more, but there seems to be enough water movement in my tanks to where that isn't a problem.

EDIT: Congrats on becoming a Little Fish, Dave :D

I don't think it would matter either, in my 20 gallon after a few days the water seems to evaporate and all I do is just fill it back up becuase the dripping noise sounds really bad.

Ahh..I think it's up to personal preference..but, I personally love the waterfall noise..but sometimes it does bother me at night..I always wake up, worried that it's leaking onto the floor..:p
