hey guys, just moved into my dorm and left my 5 gallon at home. i still want some fishy presence in here without all the hassle of a tank so i was wondering what fish do best in bowls?
A single betta or a few shrimp is just about all that'll do. What sort of volume are we talking? It'd still need to be filtered and, if your local temperature gets too low, heated.

I personally would not place a betta in a space smaller than 3 gallons. You can purchase a 2.5 gallon rectangular tank at most pet stores. It is much easier to fit a filter and heater to rectangular tanks.
Your always going to have the "hassle" of a tank because even though you want a bowl it's still essentially a tank. Which will still require care. I can't really think of anything that would be happy in a 1 gallon tank, maybe snails or a shrimp.
As said before tanks 5 gallons and under are relatively cheap. Even the kits seem to be reasonably priced. For example: 2.5 gallon
