driftwood/filter question

i think the driftwood in my tank is cloggin my filter up really bad. I just put a new filter in it and it clogged up in 2 days. HELP

and yes, i got it from a local fish store and went straight into my tank. I guess i shouldnt have listened to the fish store guy...he said it was ready for the tank.

I have a 10 gallon tank with a whisper filter

male betta
2 corys
1 dwarf frog

What do you mean cloggin up the filter?

As in the wood itself or its leaking the brown color into the water ?

driftwood secretes tannins into your water, but this would not "clog" your filters or anything--just turn your water into iced-tea.

i dunno its hard to explain....i put a new filter cartridge and then about a day later its just tricklin.....and the filter is covered in brown stuff.

that could also be brown algae.

any sugggestions on dealing with this nuisance

If its brown algae then your actualy more in luck because its easy to remove. Just whipe it off and it should go away after a few water changes.

If its from the driftwood than you may find that you need to remove it

as has already been stated, driftwood will not clog a filter...it will only turn the water brown...if you decide it is the wood (which seems unlikely to me) you can always remove it from the tank and let it soak for a few weeks in a bucket
