ok...so i'm starting a new fish tank and wanna try decoring it with a piece of driftwood...but with my limited funds...i wanna try to spend as little as possible.

So the questions are...wut kind of wood can i use?...wut do i need to do to them before using it in my tank so it won't discolor the water or rot?

i am planning on fastening either some java moss, riccia, or java ferms to this.

thanx for any of your suggestions...*celebrate

You want would that has completely dried out, and an added bonus, if its submerged, boil it for a few hours. tannins leaching into the water, turning it brown are not a bad thing, personally, i like a ill color in my wter, but, i suppose its up to the person.

it's tricky to gather your own. some woods are just naturally going to fall apart in your tank over time. it is kind of pricey, but i'd still recommend shelling out a little bit of cash to get driftwood at your lfs. you know it won't rot, and if you do have problems, you can blame them :)
