Dropsy?

My gf's paradise fish is quite swollen with raised scales and cannot seem to swim down from the surface. We have discussed euthenasia, is that the right course of action at this point?

Yup..not much you can do about dropsy, and that is what this sounds like. Go get some clove oil and vodka, mix them 50/50 and that should do the job. Do not flush or freeze!

If you can't get these items a sharp knife to remove the head or whack it with a hammer.
