Hello all,
My new Dwarf Gourami seems to be constently excreting waste, but unusually long (i assume, i've never seen poo that big!) and stragely (different consistency).. but i mean constantly as in i rarely see him without stuff hangin out..
Other than that he seems normal.. eating regularly and i even notice him following the cories around and mimicking them..

I don't know if i should be concerned, but i came back today after being away for a night, to a tank that definetly needs to be cleaned. (although my last vacuum was on monday...

any advice?

It could be that he's overeating. Gouramis are one of those fish that will eat until they explode if you let them. Mine would even go after the bottom feeder wafers. Maybe see if he's eating too much. Fish poop will usually reflect what they have been eating, which might account for the color/consistency. If it is stringy or white, it can be an indication of internal infection. Maybe someone else has some other ideas.

its possible he's overeating, i feed that tank a pinch of either Flakes, Blood worms, or crushed dried shrimp. and 1 sinking tablet or shrimp pellet. I do this again (except for the sinking foods) at night.
Since i have 5 speedy, hungry whiteclouds.. the gourmai gets a bit, but not that much.
I also have noticed him eating algae off the new driftwood in the tank.
it is stringy, i don't think it's white, but the water is tea coloured so maybe i can't tell.

Sounds alot like whats going on in my tank, becides the funny-looking poop.

My Danios are voracious little eaters and my D. Gourami hardly gets a chance to dart to the surface to get the micro-pellets. He was eating the algae wafers before I decided to combat the problem with.. TopFin Bloodworms!

They're small enough for Mr. Gourami but too large for the Danios. You may want to try something like this, since he's eating the algae off of your driftwood it seems like he's getting enough plant matter but throwing in some meaty foods will help him balance out his system.
